Germany Reaches the Round of 16 at Euro 2024 with a 2-0 Victory Over Hungary

The National Team Secures a Spot in the Next Round with One Game to Spare

Germany's impressive performance at Euro 2024 continued on Wednesday as they secured their place in the round of 16 with a 2-0 victory over Hungary in Stuttgart.

Having already booked their ticket to the next round, Germany went into their third and final group game against Switzerland looking to maintain their momentum. The game was played in front of a sell-out crowd at the Arena Frankfurt, which will host five matches during the tournament.

Germany took the lead in the 21st minute through a stunning strike from Kai Havertz. The Chelsea midfielder received the ball on the edge of the box and unleashed a powerful shot that flew into the top corner of the net. Hungary goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi had no chance of saving it.

Germany doubled their lead just before half-time when Timo Werner scored his first goal of the tournament. The RB Leipzig forward was on hand to tap in a cross from Jonas Hofmann, who had made a great run down the right-hand side.

Hungary came out strongly in the second half and had a few chances to get back into the game, but Germany's defense held firm. The home side also had a few chances to extend their lead, but they were unable to find the net again.

The final whistle blew with Germany secure in their 2-0 victory. The result means that they have now won two and drawn one of their three group games. They will face Switzerland in their final group game on Tuesday, June 21st at 9 pm CEST.
